John Hite
Executive Policy Advisor
John Hite is a Circular Economy policy expert with a specific focus on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws for paper and packaging. His experience spans the public and private sector, including direct employment or consulting with advocacy organizations, state government, and some of the world’s largest companies. Most recently, he was part of the original team that built the U.S.’s first Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) for paper and packaging EPR compliance – Circular Action Alliance (CAA) – acting as the lead interface for the organization with thousands of regulated companies.
Previously, John worked with Toronto-based consulting firm Clear Strategy as the Director of Environmental Policy and Public Affairs, supporting several large multi-national corporations in navigating packaging design and policy related decisions. Prior to his work at Clear Strategy, John was instrumental in developing EPR for packaging legislation in the northeast, working first with the Conservation Law Foundation and then the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP). With nearly a decade of U.S. EPR experience, John is intimately familiar with the regulations, stakeholders and perspectives shaping how EPR for packaging will impact producer’s decision-making.
John holds a a bachelor degree in Geography from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts and a Masters in Environmental Management from the Yale School of the Environment.
